The last few years have produced a wealth of negative news in regard to disgraced former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich. Although a standardbred named after the politician isn't exactly tearing up the racetracks he competes over, he is bringing some good press to the racing industry

.

An article by Kristen McQueary in the Chicago News Cooperative has given the equine 'Blago,' a six-year-old by Cole Muffler, the star treatment.

He was bought for $35,000 as a yearling and has banked over $44,000 in his 91-race career. If the gelding could talk, he'd probably be the first to tell you that his lifetime on the racetrack is nothing to write home about. Apparently, it is what the 11-time winner does off the track which truly makes him special

“He’s the barn clown. Everybody likes him,” Blagojevich's trainer, Karen Tkaczyk, was quoted as saying. “Everyone comes to see 'The Governor.'”
