Sugar Bowl and driver Gilles Barrieau delivered a sweet win in the Boxing Day Feature Thursday (Dec. 26) afternoon at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The victory was one of three on the card for trainer Jeff Holmes, as Sugar Bowl (Driven by Barrieau) paced to the front and got home a winner in 1:56 over Tobins Brownie (Marc Campbell) and Shake N Blake (David Dowling). Tommy Collings shares ownership of the 3-5 winner with Brian MacPhee of Mount Stewart.
Trainer Holmes also had two more winners on the day as Elroy Shiner (1:56.4) won at 4-5 odds and Imalookertoo (1:56.1) was a 3-5 winner, both with Paul Langille in the driver’s seat.
Woodmere Betcha remains undefeated in her young career after three straight victories for trainer Jamie Smith, driver Adam Merner and owner Thestable Woodmere Betcha of Guelph, Ontario. The Bet The Moon filly won in 1:58 for a new personal best at 4-5 betting odds.
Buddysnvirgins (Barrieau) was sent off as the 2-5 favourite in the Boxing Day Pace and delivered in 2:02.1 over Century Invictus (Norris Rogers) and Heatherspet (Merner). Darrell Neill co-owns and trains the winning pacer with co-owner Ryan Neill of Winsloe.
Driver Marc Campbell continues to run away with the driving title for the 15th straight season as the Orwell horseman won four dashes on the card. He celebrated wins with the Kevin MacLean trained Stash It Away (1:57.2) at 4-5 odds, Two Points (1:57) at 1-5 for trainer Kenny Arsenault, Windemere Saddy (1:57.3) at 2-5 for trainer Brent Campbell and Battle Of York (1:58.1) at 4-5 for trainer Taylor Doyle.
