Nasty. Mean-spirited. Ornery. A handful. All are accurate descriptions of a horse that will soon call it a career, his mandatory retirement date set for December 31. And all are terms of endearment.
Anvil Raider N will reach the mandatory age of retirement on January 1, 2014 but this 14-year-old still has plenty left in the tank and plenty of kick left in him. Literally. After winning his North American-season leading 22nd race of the year last Saturday at Northfield Park, 'The Anvil' will head back to the Ohio half-miler on Saturday looking for his 23rd win of the campaign in what could be the final race of his career.
