'Herbie' Lowers The Boom In London

Sizzlen Hot Herbie showed no mercy to the foes he sparred with in Thursday’s $10,000 Preferred 3 for trotters at The Raceway at Western Fair District.

In rein to owner/trainer Natasha Day, the seven-year-old son of dropped into an early four-hole position while Neon Lights and Zack To The Max battled to the quarter pole in :28.4. Zack To The Max worked his way to the top and had the field chasing him past the half in 1:00.2.

Sizzlen Hot Herbie started first-over on the way to the half, and he cleared to the lead with relative ease in the backstretch. He was a six-length leader at the three-quarter pole in 1:29.2 and then used a :29.4 closing panel to extend his lead to 13-1/4 lengths at the finish line in a time of 1:59.1. Caviars Triumph was the runner-up, with Irish Thunder rounding out the Trifecta ticket.

Sent off as the even-money favourite, the seven-year-old son of Here Comes Herbie-Six Red improved this year’s record to 4-4-5 from 26 starts with the win. The 20-time winner bumped his lifetime cash stash to $171,904 in the process.

It was worth the drive to London for reinsman Marc St. Louis, Jr. thanks to his six-win performance on the 12-race card.

He got the ball rolling with Playfull Elegance (2:01.4) in Race 5 and tacked on wins with Its Eds Idea (1:58 – Race 7), Barrys Shelby (2:02.4 – Race 8), Havartiwon (2:02.2 – Race 9), Shadow Tail (1:58.3 – Race 10) and Enchanted Mission (2:10.1 - Race 12).
