On a night that didn’t favour front-end speed, On The Ropes managed to buck the bias and turn in a front-stepping score in the $28,000 feature trot on Monday at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
With Jonathan Drury at the lines, On The Ropes was parked past the opening quarter in :27.4 before working to the lead and then carving out middle panels of :56.3 and 1:25.3. He kicked home in :29.4 over a track rated ‘good’, and that was good enough to earn him the one-length score over B Yoyo in 1:55.2. Odds On Amethyst was third.
Carmen Auciello trains the four-year-old son of Chapter Seven-Rs Giggles for owner Percy Elkins of Milton, Ont. The win improved his 2019 record to 5-4-3 from 22 assignments. The 10-time winner has banked over $190,000 to date.
