As Winter Storm Elliott pushed eastward along the Jetstream and over the Woodbine Mohawk Park oval during the Thursday night (Dec. 22) card, one Storm Trotter braved the freezing elements to pull a 12-1 upset in the $21,000 featured trot.

Wickenburgh grabbed the lead to a :27.3 first quarter while driver Bob McClure landed in the pocket with Storm Trotter. Simcoe Seelster then took over the lead into the backstretch to shuffle Storm Trotter to third while the field plodded single-file to a :57.1 half.

Dealin With Dewey made the first move after the leader towards the turn and led attack along the rim to within two lengths of the leader passing three-quarters in 1:26.1. Simcoe Seelster folded once headed off the corner and Dealin With Dewey clung to a diminishing lead. Favourite Unbeatable Kemp came closing to the center but Storm Trotter soon emerged from the pack and burst towards the leader late to put a neck in front at the beam and clock a 1:55 victory. Unbeatable Kemp settled for third and Simcoe Seelster settled for fourth.

Trained by Shane Weber for owners/breeders Thomas and Elizabeth Rankin, Storm Trotter won his fourth race from 13 starts and has now earned $49,940. He paid $27.30 to win.
