Driver Sylvain Filion forged Benoit Baillargeon trainee Zig Zag to the front off an uncovered journey to nab a 1:53.4 victory in the $36,000 Preferred Handicap Trot on the special Tuesday (Dec. 22) card at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Perfetto pushed for the lead from post 8 to take the field by the quarter in :27.3 but yielded command up the backside as Hey Livvy lunged to the top from third. Zig Zag meanwhile raced fifth to a :56.4 half, where Filion angled the four-year-old Royalty For Life gelding off the pegs and rolled first over towards Hey Livvy rounding the final turn. By three-quarters in 1:24.4, Zig Zag marched to race within a length of the lead and continued to dig into Hey Livvy before eventually edging a half length in front to the finish. Dream Nation rallied to take second in a photo while Hey Livvy settled for third.

Co-owned by Baillargeon with Claude Hamel, Richard Thompson and Santo Vena, Zig Zag won his seventh race from 22 starts this season and his ninth from 35 overall, earning $169,918. He paid $5.40 to win.
