Sam Hill Shares The Wealth

On the national scene, Foiled Again has garnered many headlines for his age-defying abilities on the racetrack. At The Meadows Racetrack & Casino, Sam Hill has built a similar reputation as an iron horse, and his story is just as fascinating.

Claimed for $20,000 as a five-year-old by Don Tiger, Sam Hill's journey to the top levels at The Meadows was far from easy. Two surgeries left veterinarians telling Tiger that the horse's career was likely over. But the gritty pacer overcame it all, and in the process earned not only the respect of those that have raced against him, but also much needed money for local charities.

After the first surgery, in 2011, Tiger vowed to give 10% of Sam Hill's earnings to charity. After a second surgery in 2012, he vowed to up that percentage to 20 if the horse made it back. He did, setting a track record in 2013 and continuing his success at the top levels two seasons later.

Sam Hill just completed his nine-year-old season at The Meadows with 10 wins in 27 starts, earning over $106,000 to bring his career bankroll to more than $420,000.
