Bettis worked out a perfect cover trip Wednesday to capture his second straight win in the $22,500 Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows.

When Fox Valley Thor brushed first over to challenge the leader, Fifty Two Finn, Aaron Merriman moved Bettis behind the live cover. Fox Valley Thor cleared before the three-quarters, but Bettis soared past to score in 1:57. Springboard rallied for second, finishing 1-3/4 lengths back, while Fox Valley Thor saved show.

David Wade trains Bettis, a five-year-old homebred son of Sierra Kosmos-SJs Shad Roe who extended his career bankroll to $148,147, and owns with William F. Peel III and Gerald Brittingham.

Greg Grismore, Dave Palone and Merriman each drove three winners on the 15-race card.
