Or at least the state’s election officials will, after the LetOhioVote group dropped off 325,496 signatures -- some 84,000 more than needed -- to send the issue of slots at tracks to a referendum vote next November.
The group hopes to prevent governor Ted Strickland from using his authority to order slots installed. It reportedly includes both opponents and supporters of gambling, and has not ruled out receiving monies from gambling interests.
County boards of elections and the secretary of state could disqualify more than the
84,000 surplus. If that happened, LetOhioVote would have 10 days to replenish the shortage.
