Special Mission accepted his mission on Thursday (Dec. 21) evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park and took it in stride as he won the featured $18,000 conditioned trot by two lengths.
As one of a quartet of victories, Tyler Borth steered the winning drive for trainer Blair Burgess from post 10. Making a diagonal beeline across the track, Special Mission landed in fourth and remained stationed in fourth through the opening panel in :28 and half in :58.1. After the half-mile marker, Borth pulled his right line and sent Special Mission second over behind MVN (Jean Renaud) en route to the three-quarters in 1:29.1. Pacesetting Prince Archie (Steve Hudon), MVN and Special Mission all roared into contention in the final turn. Down the lane, Special Mission achieved the upper hand and kept going to win in 1:57.2. Prince Archie took second while MVN rounded out the top three.
Special Mission (Walner-Special Hill) is owned by Daniel Roland and Bred Winr Stables. The four-year-old trotter earned his fourth victory in seven career starts. He paid $3.60 to win.
