A pair of Preferred tilts highlighted the Monday evening program at The Raceway at Western Fair District, with Casimir Swamp Girl and Bit Of Luck employing different tactics to take home top spot in their respective events.

Casimir Swamp Girl powered to the lead from Post 7 in the $8,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3, and she didn’t look back en route to a handy score for the tandem of driver Colin Kelly and trainer Kyle Bossence.

The four-year-old daughter of Up The Credit-Trust Me Ashley ripped through panels of :28.3, :58.4 and 1:28.4 before using a :30-second final frame to win by 4-1/4 lengths over Saulsbrook Jessie in 1:58.4. Third prize went to Lifelong Dream.

William Pendleton of Kenilworth, Ont. owns the distaffer who improved this year’s record to 10-3-3 from 20 starts with the win. The 18-time winner went over $100,000 in career earnings with the victory.

Kelly also guided Bit Of Luck to his win in the $9,400 Horses & Geldings Preferred 3, but this time he used a come-from-behind approach to win.

The Teesha Symes pupil got away sixth while Brocks Fortune led the field through fractions of :28.4, :59.2 and 1:30.2. Bit Of Luck moved off the rail going to the half, and he was three-wide on the way to the three-quarter pole. His closing kick was enough to earn him the win by 1-3/4 lengths over Brocks Fortune in 2:06.3 in the 1-1/16 mile affair. Maximus Power was third.

Michael Goldberg of Toronto, Ont. owns the five-year-old son of Camluck-Meet Me Out West who now boasts a 4-3-5 record from 34 trips to the track this season. The 18-time winner has banked just shy of $170,000 to date.
