‘King’ Reigns Supreme At Red Shores

The ‘King’ of Island racing was busy adding to his win totals Saturday afternoon (Dec. 21) in his tenth season as leading driver at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Marc Campbell made five trips to the winner’s circle on the Saturday card including three wins from his own Charlottetown stable. Campbell’s catch-driving wins were with Rockstar Drums in 1:59.1 for trainer Vaughan Doyle and Santanna Sass in 1:58.1 for Nick MacGillvray of Stratford. The Campbell stable opened up the action in Race 1 with Messier Seelster in 2:02, then 14-year-old veteran Dreamfair Van Dam scored a 19-length romp in 1:58.3 and Charlottes Western was a front-end winner in 1:58.2.

Screen Test delivered as the favourite in the $2,750 Preferred Pace with a first-over journey of 1:57.4. Corey MacPherson was at the lines for owners Kickin Horse Stable of York and William Andrew of Calgary, Alta., and trainer Stephen Gass. Hes Marvalous (Driven by Myles Heffernan Sr.) did all the roadwork to finish second while Burn Out Hanover (Kenny Arsenault) was third.

Tell Me Why took a pocket ride in the $2,450 top mare’s pace, also with MacPherson in the seat, in 1:58.1 for co-owner and trainer Joe MacDonald of Breadalbane and co-owner Alexis Gass of Cornwall.

It was a big day at the city oval. Customers wagered $52,990 on the afternoon program.
