Despite rainy and sloppy racing conditions, Boiling Oar came within two-fifths of a second of the Fraser Downs track record in the $10,800 Open Pace at the end of the night on Friday (Dec. 20).

Driven by Bill Tainsh Jr., Boiling Oar got the first call leaving the gate before Southwind Jaden cleared from the outside and then retook after the :26.3 quarter mark. He cruised along through a half in :55.3 and three-quarters in 1:23.1 then held clear of his pocket-pursuer through the stretch to win in a career-best clocking of 1:50.4.

Boiling Oar was sent postward as the 8-5 second choice after finishing second to Iwontdothatagain in last week's Open. He returned $6.20 to win while Iwontdothatagain finished third this time out.

Peace Out Posse, Buddys Hope and Redneck Jim completed the order of finish as the field for the featured finale was scratched down to six with Intrigued Again out sick.

Boiling Oar is now a 19-time winner in his career, with earnings totalling $212,554. The victory was his 13th this year to go along with 11 other top three finishes from 28 starts.

J J J Stables owns the four-year-old Shadow Play gelding, who completed a training triple on the card for Jim Marino.
