On Saturday, December 19, hundreds of people attended a memorial benefit at Lebanon Raceway in Ohio for the horsepeople that suffered significant
losses in the December 5 barn fire which claimed the lives of over 40 standardbred and two grooms.
An article on kypost.com states that the event included live music, auctions, food, and companionship for the men and women who lost those they love.
"It (the money raised) will be their money. If they need to pay their mortgage this month, it's going to be something to help them do that," Susan Wilson, Lebanon Raceway's vice president of racing and simulcasting, was quoted as saying.
"If they ready to get back in the business, we hope that we're giving them enough to at least get their foot in the door."
