Seven Straight For San Pail

The return on investment to San Pail’s backers was microscopic, but the overall effort for the two-time Maple Leaf Trot champ in Monday’s $42,000 Open Trot at Woodbine Racetrack was ginoromous

.

San Pail kicked butt yet again for the tandem of driver Randy Waples and co-owner/trainer Rod Hughes, who watched the seven-year-old son of San Pellegrino toss aside six foes en route to a 1:54.3 tally in WEG’s weekly trotting feature.

Waples wasted no time in sending Canada’s defending Older Trotting Horse of the Year to the lead, and he easily sliced his way through panels of :26.3, :56.2 and 1:26.2 before turning on the jets over the final quarter of the mile. A :28.1 final frame was more than enough to defeat runner-up Define The World and third-place finisher Before He Cheats.

Bred and co-owned by Glenn Van Camp of Port Perry, ON, San Pail won for the seventh consecutive start while improving his 2010 record to 13-1-0 in 15 trips behind the starting gate. The 35-time winner went past $1.7 million in earnings with the win.
