The milestone watch was on at Truro Raceway on Sunday afternoon as veteran teamster Robert Laffin needed just a pair of scores

to reach the 2,000-win plateau.

It only took three races into the card before the Dartmouth, Nova Scotia sulky sitter struck. He mapped out a perfect pocket trip for Kilkerran Xtra, who rallied to a 2:04.3 triumph to give Laffin the 1,999th win of his career.

Laffin later guided Gonzenbach to a 2:01.1 tally in Race 11, and it turned out to be a no doubt about it win for the son of Village Jiffy. The pacer drew off to win by more than eight lengths, giving Laffin ample time to strike a memorable pose for the 2,000th win of his career.

Truro Raceway is where it all began for Laffin, who registered his first lifetime win over the half-miler with Mccloud Hanover back in 1978.
