Dabarndawgswatchin pulled off a mild upset defeating 6-5 co-favourites Huntress and So Much More in the $36,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace on Friday night, Dec. 1 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Parked past the :26.4 opening quarter, Dabarndawgswatchin and driver Louis-Philippe Roy worked their way to the lead over the quick-leaving So Much More and James MacDonald. She called the shots through middle splits of :55.2 and 1:23 then held clear through the lane to score her 20th career victory in a final time of 1:51 over the 'good' track as last week's winner Huntress rallied from the backfield in the middle of the track to edge out the pocket-pursuer and two-time divisional champion So Much More for second.
Coming off a second-place finish in the Mares Preferred 2 class last week, Dabarndawgswatchin scored as the 5-1 third choice by 1-1/2 lengths and paid $12.30 to win.
Trained by David Menary, the homebred Hes Watching-Addison Bay mare is now five-for-25 during her five-year-old campaign with all of her wins coming in the Preferred classes. Dabarndawgswatchin has banked $178,550 of her $624,664 bankroll this year for owners Julia Ferguson of Greely, Ont. and Lloyd Stone of Portland, Ont.
