Dabarndawgswatchin went a gusty first-over trip to prevail in the $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Pace on a rainy Friday night (Dec. 2) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
After following in fourth through first half fractions of :28.1 and :57.1, Dabarndawgswatchin advanced first-over to three-quarters in 1:24.4 and got by late with longshot Need To Breathe slipping up the pylons to nab second over pacesetter Voelz Delight. Driven by Louis-Philippe Roy, Dabarndawgswatchin prevailed by half a length in 1:53 over the 'good' going.
Stepping up in class off a 1:50.4 victory on Nov. 25 at Mohawk, Dabarndawgswatchin was the 1-2 favourite and paid $3 to win in the compact field that was scratched down to five with the top four finishing within a length at the wire.
Dabarndawgswatchin picked up the fifth win of her four-year-old season and lifted her earnings to $172,910 through 32 starts. Lifetime, she boasts 14 victories and a bankroll totalling $423,914. David Menary trains the homebred daughter of Hes Watching out of Addison Bay for owners Julie Ferguson of Greely, Ont. and Lloyd Stone of Portland, Ont.
In Friday's $30,000 Pop-Up Series final for filly and mare pacers, Twin B Sunkissed rallied off the cover of A Black Diamond to defeat that foe by three-quarters of a length in 1:54 with Doug McNair working out the winning trip for trainer Francis Dumouchel.
Twin B Sunkissed is a four-year-old Sunshine Beach-Western Heat mare owned by Ecurie CSL and 9174 7998 Quebec Inc. She paid $10.20 to win as the 4-1 third choice.
Bad Rossa, who was looking for the series sweep, settled for third after gunning to the top from the outside post nine and leading the way through fractions of :27.2, :57 and 1:25.1. Favourite Casimir Swamp Girl finished fourth off a pocket trip.
The series was for fillies and mares that were non-winners of $35,000 this year or not averaging $1,250 per start in a minimum of 10 starts in 2022.
