Trainer Jim Marino took sole control of the 2021 Fraser Downs training standings with three wins on Wednesday's (Dec. 1) nine-race performance at the Surrey, B.C., harness racing venue.
Marino, who now leads Kelly Hoerdt, 52-49, atop the Fraser training table, kicked off his hat trick in the fifth race, a $4,000 claiming pace, with his own Tito Santanna ($2.50), whom Brandon Campbell drove to a 10-length, 1:54.3 victory. Two races later, Marino and driver Dave Kelly teamed up to win an $8,000 mares claiming pace with Paul Sanders' Riverunsnappy ($23.50). Marino and Kelly partnered again in the featured eighth race, an optional claiming distaff pace, to win with Hotpieceoface ($9.20) in 1:54 and give Marino — who shares ownership with the Shale Stables — the second half of his owning double on the card, as well.
There were multiple winners in the Jackpot Pick-5, resulting in a $17,316 carryover in the wager when racing resumes at Fraser Downs with a 10-race card on Thursday night (Dec. 2).
