Yonkers Raceway’s Sunday (Dec. 2) matinee saw a down-the-road Mostinterestingman (Austin Siegelman, $11) victorious in the featured — and ‘sloppy’— $44,000 Open Handicap Trot.
The fractions were cut in :27.3, :57.3 and 1:26.3 as Mostinterestingman — from Post 4 –never had an anxious moment during the 1:55.4 win. Jack Vernon (who was driven by Dan Dube) rushed up around the breaking 8-5 favourite, Celebrity Ruth (Trond Smedshammer), to grab the early pocket around another misbehaver (Crazy About Pat, who was steered by Jordan Stratton).
New Heaven (Joe Bongiorno) did not get close moving first-up from fourth as Mostinterestingman had a two and a quarter-length lead in and out of the final turn. He went on to win by three lengths. Jack Vernon came back on to secure second, while New Heaven, Royal Bachelor (Eric Abbatiello) and Andy Ray (Jason Bartlett) ‘picked off the minors.’

For third choice Mostinterestingman, a five-year-old Manofmanymissions gelding co-owned by (trainer) Ricky Bucci and Richard Solano, it was his eighth win from 38 seasonal starts. The exacta paid $74.50, the triple returned $860, and the superfecta paid $5,358.
Aqueduct was ‘fogged out’ Sunday, and with it this week’s scheduled revival of the ‘New York, New York Double.’
Yonkers’ next Sunday matinee will take place on Dec. 16.
