El Toro Loco won the featured $9,000 conditioned trot on Tuesday, Dec. 19 at The Raceway at the Western Fair District by a narrow margin over the bettors' choice.
Garrett Rooney and El Toro Loco got away third from post five and they maintained their position through the opening panel in :28.4 and half in :59.2. After that station, El Toro Loco pulled first over to challenge the pacesetting Johnny Buckshot (Tyler Borth). The three-quarters was hit in 1:28.1 and the pair continued to duel through the final turn. Down the stretch, El Toro Loco and Johnny Buckshot matched strides, but El Toro Loco was the one to pull ahead and win by a head over the favoured Johnny Buckshot in 1:58.1. Closing sharply to take third was The Great Reset (Lorne House).
Owned by No One Knows Us Stable, the four-year-old gelded son of Walner and the Muscle Hill mare Southwind Cabaret moved his seasonal tally to four in 25 starts and career win count to 10. Making his debut at the London, Ont. oval and with conditioner Stephen Bossence a winning one, El Toro Loco moved his lifetime bankroll to $186,983.
With $608,749 handled over the 11-race card, Western Fair showcased a season-high night for wagering on Tuesday.
