Hopetobefirst added to his record on Sunday (Dec. 19) at Flamboro Downs when taking an $8,900 claiming pace, winning his seventh-straight race in the process.
Slotted with the second tier, Hopetobefirst raced towards the back of the pack until driver J Harris tipped him off the pegs and made a two-wide bid for the lead into the half and to three-quarters. Coming to the final turn, Harris hustled Hopetobefirst around first-over Excaliber Seelster and squared with pacesetter Sir Galahad through the straightaway, whom he downed easily to win by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:56.3.
Stacey Currie trains and owns Hopetobefirst, who won for the 10th time this season from 32 starts and for the 60th time in his career through 425 outings. The 13-year-old Sagebrush gelding has banked $393,938 in earnings and paid $6.70 to win.
