Training Triple For Cullen At Flamboro

The 2024 leading trainer at Flamboro Downs, Jodie Cullen, widened her lead in the standings again on Wednesday (Dec. 18) night after she sent out a triactor of winners. The triple put her just three shy of 100 wins for the season at the Dundas, Ont. track.

Travis Cullen teamed up with Jodie Cullen for the three wins, driving each to gate-to-wire triumphs in their respective classes.

Abovemypaygrade ($2.10) won the $7,500 freshman colt and gelding condition pace by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:59.4. Ronald and Travis Cullen co-own the Sunshine Beach - Appeals To Me gelding for his second straight win. 

Granite Beach ($2.20) held on at the wire, winning by a head in 1:56.3, in the $9,500 conditioned pace. Unraced as a freshman and sophomore, the four-year-old Sunshine Beach - April May Dune gelding moved his tally to 11-7-2 in 25 starts with $49,288. Owned by Grace Marshman and A1stable, the victory was his third straight. 

Completing the trio of wins and the action on the evening card, Yourtheone ($4.30) won the $7,500 conditioned pace in 1:55.4 by three quarters of a length. Ronald, Jodie, and Travis Cullen co-own the Shanghai Phil - Millbanks Ariel six-year-old gelding, who was bred by Jodie Cullen. The triumph was his 14th of the year, producing $69,422 in seasonal earnings.

Jodie Cullen has pushed to a career year with 228 wins, surpassing the 2023 former career best of 225 wins. She has taken home just shy of $2.4 million in purses this year. At Flamboro, Cullen holds a 34-win lead over all trainers. Nationally, she tops the standings with 227 wins.
