Ontario Barn Fire Claims 10 Standardbreds

In the early morning hours of Dec. 4, 2024 a fire destroyed a barn owned by Jim Wilson of Melancthon, Ont. resulting in a total loss of livestock.

The devastating fire consumed a large breed of hens, 13 cattle, and 10 Standardbred horses. The horses that perished included:

  • Fear The Captain 
  • Highland Beach Boy (pictured above)
  • Hurricane Watch
  • My American Tallia
  • Road Runner Colony
  • Shine On Houligan
  • The Double Deuce and her weanling colt Hair Of The Dog 
  • What Have I Done
  • Wicked Royal 

Wilson and his family would like to thank friends and neighbours who came to help and continue to offer their unwavering support. The kindness and generosity is deeply appreciated.

"We are grateful to everyone who has stopped in, called and brought donations. We have suffered a great loss and would like to turn our loss into helping others," said Wilson in a statement released to Standardbred Canada.

Donations are appreciated to Shepherd's Cupboard Food Bank in Shelburne, a team/charitable organization that the Wilson family actively volunteers and supports. E-Transfers can be made to [email protected], with a request to add Jim Wilson in the the memo.  
If individuals would prefer a tax receipt, cheques can be made out to Compass Church or Trinity Primrose United Church of Shelburne with Shepherd's Cupboard /Jim Wilson, in the memo and mailed to 200 Owen Sound St., Shelburne, ON, L0N 1S3.
