Odds-on choice Andy Over persevered first over to land a 1:57 victory in the $13,000 Preferred Trot on Sunday night (Dec. 18) at Flamboro Downs.
Arrakis rolled from post eight to the top, but yielded control after a :27.4 first quarter to Cool Clifford. Cool Clifford then slowed the tempo to a :58 half, prompting driver Ed Hensley to angle Andy Over off the pegs from fifth and march towards the leader in the backside. Andy Over loomed to within a length of the lead by three-quarters in 1:27.3 and easily put away Cool Clifford off the final turn. In the stretch, Andy Over strolled to a 1-3/4-length win while chased by pocket-sitter Arrakis. Oh Lina rallied from the back to finish third, another three lengths behind, with Cool Clifford fading to fourth.
Ed Hensley co-owns Andy Over, a five-year-old Andovers Son gelding, with trainer Ashleigh Hensley. The trotter won his 22nd race from 117 starts and has now earned $154,543. He paid $3 to win.
