With just six race days remaining until the New Year, trainer Richard Moreau continues to lead all trainers on the Woodbine Entertainment (WEG) circuit with 96 victories from 522 starters
.
Moreau leads only by one win over fellow Quebec native Ben Baillargeon, who finished second in last year’s standings after celebrating a career year with earnings of $2,164,863.
A native of Lachenaie, Que., Moreau has accumulated over $1.2 million in earnings this season on the WEG circuit, putting him over $25.4 million lifetime.
Moreau, known as a claiming conditioner, has been very consistent over the past decade posting earnings over $1 million in each season.
“I have a very quick turn-around rate in my stable,” Moreau commented. “Often times there will be at least 10 new horses coming and going every month and that’s one of the reasons why I have been successful.”
Among his top performers this year were Logans Hero, Veal Marsala and Slightly Tipsy.
“I class my horses where I think they can compete. I don’t expect to win every race but when I go to the track it’s a good feeling when you have a good chance to win.”
On the WEG circuit last year, Moreau’s stable sent out 375 starters, tallied 64 wins and earned $1,010,229.
