Hat Trick For Alexachase; Six For Callahan

Alexachase may have been the smallest starter in the $23,000 Mares Open/Handicap Pace, but she showed her big motor coming from fifth on the final turn four-wide to post her third consecutive trip to the winner’s circle in Monday’s feature at Dover Downs.

Not overlooked by the wagering public this week, after winning at 18-1 last Monday, Bret Brittingham waited patiently until reaching the three-quarter pole before putting the Bettors Delight-Jett Away four-year-old into high gear. Alexachase quickly passed the up-front contestants on the far outside for her seventh victory of the year. Rock N Load was second with No Bad Luck finishing third.

Johnny and Kimberley Waite own the career winner of $228,934. She’s put more than $72,000 of that total on her card in 2012.

Driver Corey Callahan put on a clinic thanks to his six-win performance. He clicked with It Hurts Me (1:55.4), Rustys Terror (1:56.3) and Taylor B Swift (1:56.3) in the first half of the card before sweeping the final three races with Flashy (1:52.4), Blissfull Lil (1:56.1) and Nevermind Franco N (1:52.3).
