Perched third-over in an early flow behind a contested pace, owner-trainer Greg Campbell's Idolize ($14.60) circled four-wide into the final turn to spring a minor upset in Wednesday's (Dec. 12) featured $8,000 conditioned pace at Flamboro Downs.
The three-year-old American Ideal gelding angled wide from astern behind a :29 first quarter, with driver Tyler Moore watching Candid Cameron (Tony Kerwood) take control entering the second turn before fully committing to draft in the outer flow on approach to a :57.4 half.
With three-eighths to go, Idolize swung three-wide and was carried four-wide around a stalled Free Proof (Travis Henry) amid his bid to collar Candid Cameron midway around the home turn. Not only did he put away the longtime pacesetter, but he narrowly parried an outside challenge from Overlord (Robert Shepherd), who hooked three-wide from the pocket at head-stretch, to prevail in 1:57.4. Dam Lucky (Scott Coulter) shook free from traffic to take third.
Idolize earned his fourth win of the season after earlier triumphs at The Raceway at Western Fair District and Hiawatha Horse Park.
