The majority of the betting money went on the nose of Undercover Strike in Monday’s $38,000 Preferred Trot at Woodbine Racetrack, but Bax Of Life rained on that trotter’s parade in his quest for a sixth straight score.
Bax Of Life was hustled to the lead by reinsman Randy Waples, who was allowed to dictate the terms of the tempo with the four-year-old daughter of Windsongs Legacy-Bax Machine. She strolled through panels of :27.3, :57.1 and 1:26.1 before using a :28.4 kicker to knock off Star Ruffnready and the odds-on favourite, Undercover Strike.
The 13-time winner, who was dispatched of odds of 9-1 in the featured tilt, is owned by trainer Jerry Duford and Joanne Wray of Campbellville, ON. Together the couple has watched the mare assemble an impressive seasonal record of 8-1-3 from 23 trips behind the starting gate. She’s banked in excess of $147,000 this year and more than $233,000 to date.
Richard Moreau extended his lead in the race for this year’s training title on the WEG circuit thanks to a three-win performance during Monday evening’s 11-race card.
The Quebec native clicked with Sky Desperado (1:53.4), Delcrest Julian (1:56.2) and Aahm A Gesture (1:54.2) to bring his win total to 124 on the WEG circuit this season. The career winner of 3,953 races is eight wins ahead of Tony O’Sullivan who sits second in the standings.
Sylvain Filion made two trips to the winner’s circle at Woodbine Racetrack on Monday evening, and in doing so claimed the top spot in the drivers’ standings on the WEG circuit this season. Jody Jamieson is just two wins behind the Quebec native with seven programs of racing still to be contested in 2012 at the Rexdale oval..
