VIP Internet Stable has acquired an ownership interest in the World Champion pacer Dali. The deal with owners Aaron & Isaac Waxman’s Uncirculated Stable of Ontario was completed this week, and financial terms
were not disclosed.
Dali is a multiple stakes winning four-year-old horse with career earnings of just under $1.2 Million. At 2, the son of Real Artist captured the prestigious Woodrow Wilson and Niatross stakes (both in stakes record time), The International Stallion Stakes and an elimination of the Governor’s Cup. Dali returned at 3 to win the Burlington Stakes, an elimination of the Progress, and capped off his year with a world record performance winning the Matron Stake in 1:48.2.
Dali is fresh off a two-length victory in the Woodbine Open pace in what is believed to be the fasted mile ever paced in Canada in December – 1:49.1.
About the purchase, Aaron Waxman said, “I had almost finalized a deal to send Dali to stud, but he seems to be maturing and improving so much recently that I felt it would be a shame not to continue racing for another year. After consulting with driver Luc Ouellette and trainer Rene Allard, I decided to bring him back to race at 5. This was also a good opportunity to bring in a partner on the horse, and Ed O’Connor at VIP was the first one I called. We’re planning on racing Dali a several more times this winter then give him a little break before coming back to race in the major Free For All stakes.”
VIP Stable’s Ed O’Connor was also enthused about the sale. “My partner in VIP, Tom Janes, and I got to spend a lot of time with Aaron Waxman at this year’s Little Brown Jug watching River Shark, who we own together, and we really liked how Aaron approaches his racing operation. We bought a few yearlings together this fall, and everything on all these horses has been very smooth working with Aaron. When he called me about buying a part of Dali, I was very excited and worked with our group to put the deal in place, although there may be a share or two still available. We are thrilled to be co-owners of a horse we think will be a really great aged pacer in 2010.”
