Corey MacPherson and his chestnut charge, Windmeredontuworry, demonstrated Open Trot mastery on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 10) in taking the $2,800 event at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

Windmeredontuworry, the barn favourite in the former stable of the late Glenn MacKay Jr. who passed away in November of 2021, was unhurried and got away last in the field as he prepared to light the toteboard at 21-1 odds. Hallofaride (driven by Jason Hughes) was fired up in the early going, hitting the quarter in :27.3 over a snowy track and then caught his wind in the middle half with fractions of :59.1 and 1:31. The 2017 Atlantic trotting champion rallied from the backfield in the final quarter to swing wide and mow down his foes in the stretch for a three-length win in 2:00.4. Hallofaride finished second with Freddie (Marc Campbell) third to complete the $379.10 triactor ticket in the compact field of five.

The ownership papers for Windmeredontuworry are held by Leah Ann Moyer of Summerside, wife of the late MacKay, with the 19-time winner now trained by Philip Desroche.

MacPherson had three wins on the day as he also scored with Dusty Lane Zendaya (1:58.4) for trainer Alexis Gass and Heatherspet (2:03.4) from the Neil Bambrick barn.

The featured $3,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace was all Dreamfair Zenfire (pictured above), all the way, as she stopped the clock in 1:57.2 to win for trainer-driver Campbell and owners Ryan and Everett MacLeod of Souris. Last week’s winner, Acefortyfour Dome (Jason Hughes), came first-over to finish second ahead of pocket-sitter Filly Forty Seven (Corey MacPherson).

Live racing continues Sunday afternoon (Dec. 11) at 12:30 p.m. (AST) at Red Shores Charlottetown.
