Inheriting the pocket spot after clearing the lead past the quarter, American Passion pulled pocket in the stretch to win the $12,000 Filly and Mare Open Pace at Fraser Downs on Sunday, December 10.
Through a quarter in :27.1, American Passion took the lead, with odds-on favourite G Ts Jamie circling to the lead heading to the half. Tahiti Seelster, who parked from the start, marched uncovered towared G Ts Jamie, applying pressure through a :57 half before faltering by three-quarters in 1:25.3. G Ts Jamie led by one-and-a-half lengths into the stretch, but was overtaken by American Passion through the lane, who advanced to a length and a half victory in 1:55.2. Thats It, off a rail trip, finished third.
A seven-year-old mare by American Ideal out of the Jate Lobell mare Felicia Hanover, American Passion, owned by Raymond Henry, won her sixth race in 22 starts this season and her 27th in 128 overall, earning $199,448. Trained by Michael Bourgeois and driven by John Chappell, she paid $6.10 to win.
