There wasn’t much pari-mutuel love given to Rays San in Tuesday’s $10,000 Preferred 2 at The Raceway at Western Fair District, but that didn’t stop the pacer from rallying to an impressive victory in the featured tilt.

With the London, Ontario half-miler’s top teamster, Trevor Henry, at the controls, Rays San tucked into an early four-hole while Bestinthebusiness marched to the top and sprinted to the quarter pole in :27.3. Smokin Bear was on the move in the second quarter, and he brushed his way to the front at the mid-way point in :57. He then took the field to the three-quarter marker in 1:25.2 with Rays San in attack mode from first over. Rays San collared Smokin Bear in the lane and drew clear to win by a length over that foe. Bestinthebusiness was third.

Sent off at odds of 11-1, the Richard Moreau-trained five-year-old son of The Panderosa-Santastic won for just the second time this season in 17 starts. The $5,000 payday boosted the 13-time winner’s bankroll to $146,514. He is owned by Gaston Bibeau and Sylvain Descheneaux of Sorel-Tracy, Quebec.

Rachel Olivia was a wire-to-wire winner for driver Alfie Carroll in the $9,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 Handicap. The Daryl Roberts pupil chopped out splits of :27.4, :57.3 and 1:27 before using a :30.3 closing quarter to win by a length over Lady Latte in 1:57.3. Noartographsplease was third.

It was the sixth win of the season for the 20-time winner who is owned by Rasa Roberts of London, Ontario. The homebred pushed her career cash stash to $111,477 with the triumph.
