Favourites Deliver In Yonkers Opens

Favourite Breakheart Pass (Yannick Gingras) pranced around the pylons Friday night, winning Yonkers Raceway co-featured $38,000 Filly and Mare Open Handicap Pace

In play early from post position No. 6, Breakheart Pass worked around pole-sitting Bling (Eric Goodell) before a :27.3 opening quarter-mile.

A rated :29.1 second quarter (:56.4) and a parked out Cuz She Can (Jason Bartlett) both worked to the leader's advantage. After a 1:25.3 three-quarters. Breakheart Pass owned a length-and-a-quarter lead into the lane.

She easily held Bling at bay, winning by a measured three-quarters of a length in 1:53.2 (:27.4 last quarter). Cuz She Can held well for third, with Headpoles R Us (Ryan Anderson) and Park Avenue (Tyler Buter) completing the cashers.

For Breakheart Pass, a six-year-old daughter of Western Hero trained by Ron Burke for co-owners Burke Racing and Weaver Bruscemi, she returned $6 for her fifth win in 27 seasonal starts. The exacta paid $14.80, with the triple returning $92.50.

Friday night's co-featured $38,000 Open Trot saw even-money Master Pine (Jim Pantaleano) hold off a pair of unwanted advances.

Leaving from post No. 3, Master Pine played leapfrog on the lead with T Js Mr Lavec (Bartlett). The people choice's reclaimed the baton right at the :28.4 opening interval. He hit the intermission in :58.3, before Hurrikanebiggeorge (Dan Dube) moved from fifth.

Master Pine and "Biggeorge" did battle in and out of the 1:27.3 three-quarters, with the former clinging to a three-quarter length lead turning for home.

He dealt with both Hurrikanebiggeorge and a ducking-in T Js Mr Lavec, whipping the latter by a head 1:56.1. Tasty Max (Stephane Bouchard) and Play Fair (Pat Lachance) grabbed the minor morsels.

For Master Pine, a seven-year-old Mater Lavec gelding trained by Julie Miller for co-owners Mark Moger and Albert Delia Jr., he returned $4 for his 11th victory in 32 seasonal starts. The exacta paid $34.80, with the triple returning $74.
