WEG Doing More Great Charity Work

Woodbine Entertainment Group has announced a new scholarship program at Humber College for Rexdale youth. The scholarship is another partnership WEG has forged with the Toronto Children’s Breakfast Clubs.

A Woodbine Entertainment Community Scholarship has been created to encourage and assist past attendees of the Woodbine Children’s Breakfast Club to pursue a post secondary education at Humber College.

WEG initiated its long-standing partnership with the Toronto Children’s Breakfast Clubs in 2003, as the sole sponsor of the Woodbine Breakfast Club in Rexdale. The partnership has expanded to include annual sports equipment and toy drives.

“WEG recognizes there is a great need in the community and youth need a helping hand to pursue post-secondary education” said Jane Holmes, WEG vice president, Corporate Affairs. “WEG already sponsors several program specific scholarship opportunities with Humber College. We are excited about this scholarship which is specifically for Rexdale students in good academic standing who have demonstrated a financial need to pursue post-secondary education at Humber College. In keeping with the spirit of WEG’s community participation, the successful candidate must be an active volunteer in the community for at least one year.”

“Woodbine Entertainment Group has been instrumental in making sure that hundreds of children across the City are able to participate in sports, eat a healthy breakfast and now are able to get an education” said Rick Gosling, president of the Toronto Children’s Breakfast Clubs. “WEG has had a major impact on our ability to serve the community.”

In addition to WEG’s base funding, additional monies will be raised for the scholarship through an eBay auction hosted by WEG of unique sporting items -- autographed items donated from several NBA teams, Toronto’s FC and Marlies. Click here to bid on these items.
