Yogi Sheridan grabbed the point and scored in the pair of $10,563 American Harness Drivers Club (AHDC) Trots at Freehold Raceway on Saturday (Nov. 30).
First, Sheridan delivered 4-5 favourite Lionhead (pictured above) to a 2:02.1 victory. Leaving from post two, Sheridan circled Lionhead by early leader Bacardi (driven by Joe Lee) to take control after a :30.1 first quarter. My Big Kadillac (Mike Polansky) mounted a first-over challenge out of fourth and pressured Lionhead through middle sectionals of 1:02.1 and 1:32 but became no threat into the final turn. Lionhead spun off the bottom corner and kept a healthy lead to the end, crossing the line two lengths better than My Big Kadillac with Bacardi taking third. Ima Standup Guy (Joe Faraldo), the 5-2 second choice, saved ground and finished fourth.
Terry Morgan owns and trains Lionhead, an eight-year-old gelding by Uncle Peter. He paid $3.60 to win.
Sheridan then hustled Jaydens Pride, the lone sophomore in the field, from the pylon post to the lead and never looked back in a 2:02.4 victory. After cutting a :29.4 first quarter, Sheridan slowed the tempo to a 1:01.1 half, prompting Real McCoy (John James Urbanski) to move outside from third and test the leader. Jaydens Pride continued cruising to three-quarters in 1:32, disposed of that first-over challenger and wrapped the mile a two-length winner over 3-5 favourite Im The Muscle (James Slendorn), who slid off a pylon trip for second. Zlatan (Jacob Stillwell) chased from the pocket and took third while Awol Hanover (Steven Reisenweaver) rode a second-over trip for fourth.
Bruce Saunders trains Jaydens Pride, a three-year-old gelding by Resolve, for owner Beverly Schiffman. He paid $11 to win.
AHDC action continues at Freehold Raceway next Saturday (Dec. 7). First-race post time is 12:30 p.m. (EST).
