Protecting the rail, post one starter Bee Two Bee was unheeded in the Preferred Pace on Sunday afternoon, Dec. 1 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Jason Hughes drove the Ashley Gamester trainee in the $4,500 Preferred Pace for owners Donald MacRae and Blair MacLauchlan. Bee Two Bee led through splits of 28, 57.2, 1:26.2 and 1:54 to win over Roll Em (Marc Campbell) and High Voltage Deo (Corey MacPherson). The victory was number 31 of the seven-year-old Sunshine Beach gelding’s career.
In other action, driver Gilles Barrieau has been one of the top percentage drivers in Canadian harness racing year after year and Sunday afternoon was another showing of his mathematical mastery.
The Dieppe, N.B., native had nothing but on the board finishes with three wins, two seconds, a third and fourth from seven drives on the day including a duo of trips to the winner’s circle with Ron Matheson trainees. Barrieau scored with Matheson-trained The Sports Desk (1:57.2, $3.90) in race eight and Blood Money (1:56, $7.40) in race nine as well as Tradition (1:57.1, $4.80) in the seventh for trainer Gordie Hennessey.
