O'Brien Award winner Monkey On My Wheel held off a pair of late-closers to score her second consecutive win in the $35,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace at Woodbine Racetrack on Friday evening.

With Keith Oliver in the sulky, Monkey On My Wheel prevailed by half a length over Maureen Rocks (Chris Christoforou) and Continual Velocity (Jody Jamieson) in 1:51.1.

Lets Go Get Em (James MacDonald) fired off the gate from post five to establish the early lead over inside starter Monkey On My Wheel with Continual Velocity rolling up and clearing past the :26.2 first quarter mark. Her lead was short-lived though as Monkey On My Wheel brushed to command down the backstretch and reached the half in :54.2. She proceeded to three-quarters in 1:23.1 and spun into the stretch while Continual Velocity pulled the pocket and Maureen Rocks unleashed a :26.4 closing kick from way back. But Monkey On My Wheel found the wire in time to notch her fourth win of the campaign and 14th lifetime.

The 4-5 favourite, who also won the Preferred on Nov. 17 at Woodbine, returned $3.60 to her backers.

Travis Umphrey trains and co-owns the four-year-old daughter of Mach Three with Mac Nichol of Burlington, Ont. and Timothy Kane of St. Albert, Alta. She has earned nearly $150,000 of her $1,180,144 bankroll this year.
