Drivers Unseated In Kawartha Accident

Published: December 1, 2012 10:06 pm EST

Two drivers were unseated in an accident at the start of Kawartha Downs' fifth race on Saturday evening.

When the wings of the gate folded, Sandy Hook Road and driver Timothy Curtis cleared to command from post six, but the trotter appeared to take a bad step and fell taking out the first over Pondo Vec and driver Richard Webb. Both Curtis and Webb were tossed from their sulkies.

The rest of the field was interfered with, all making breaks with Summer Sabatical, driven by Reg Gassien, pulling up.

Sandy Hook Road and Pondo Vec ran loose before being collared.

The race continued with a gapped out field reduced to four. Favourite Cut Him Loose and trainer-driver Dagfin Henriksen won in 2:04.4.

Webb did not complete his remaining drives on the card. Curtis was only scheduled to drive in the fifth.

Trot Insider will provide updates on the conditions of the horses and drivers involved in the accident when further information is made available.
