The Woodbine Racetrack faithful showed plenty of pari-mutuel respect for trotter Joe Page on Monday evening, and the Anthony Montini trainee didn’t disappoint in the Ontario Sired Autumn Series final for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings.
Joe Page rallied off struggling cover to win the $47,500 event in a time of 1:56.3 for Hamburg, NY partners, Joseph Cicatello and Michael Rashkin.
Mr Go took the field to the quarter pole in :27.1 before giving way to a backstretch brushing Southwind Rew, who cleared to the top and threw down middle splits of :57.1 and 1:26.
Striking Rich was first over around the final turn with Joe Page racing in his draft. Zeron rolled Joe Page three wide at the head of the lane and used a :29.2 closing quarter to haul down Southwind Rew. That speedster finished second and Striking Rich was third.
Joe Page has put together a 4-5-2 record in 17 starts this campaign. Unraced as a rookie, the son of Mr Lavec has banked $79,820 to date.
