Sent at odds of 20-1, Namesmuscle left from post one and tripped out to win the $14,000 Open Handicap Trot at Plainridge Park on Thursday, November 9.

Osprey Impact left for the front following early breaks by Dony Andreas and A Nashty Business. Namesmuscle shot through the inside, snagging the pocket moving around the first turn.

Setting fractional times of :27.2, :58.1 and 1:27.1, Osprey Impact headed into the stretch with a two-length advantage on the field. Namesmuscle, tipping from the pocket and with minimal urging, trotted by Osprey Impact and opened up a three-length lead at the wire, winning handily in 1:55.2.

The time was both a seasonal and lifetime mark for the winner.

It was the ninth win of what has become a career year for Namesmuscle, who has now earned $47,631 for owner William Phipps. Gretchen Athearn trains the five-year-old gelded son of Muscle Mass, who was driven by Matt Athearn. He paid $43.80 to win.

In the $12,000 co-featured condition trot, Shorething Fashion sat patiently behind Midnight Craze for seven-eighths of a mile before tipping into the passing lane and rushing past the leader approaching the wire to win by a length in 1:56.

It was also the ninth win of 2017 for Shorething Fashion, who has bankrolled $62,497 this year for owners Bob McHugh and Mike Eaton, who also does the training. Driven by Bruce Aldrich Jr., he paid $4.00 to win.
