Sophomore pacer First Class Horse overcame his outside assignment and wired his older foes to win the $12,500 Open Handicap on Sunday afternoon at Century Downs Racetrack and Casino.
Keith Clark trains and drives the Western Terror colt for owners Robert Jones of Slave Lake, Alta. and Doris McDougall of Cochrane, Alta.
The featured field was scratched down to six starters with False Advertising sick and First Class Horse left from the outside to establish the lead early on. He cruised through fractions of :28.3, :58 and 1:27 with Blue Eyed Cowboy sweeping up from last to challenge. However, First Class Horse drew off when they turned for home and won by two lengths in 1:56 over Blue Eyed Cowboy and Gotta Bad Attitude.
First Class Horse, a 10-time winner in 14 starts this year, was the 2-5 favourite and paid $2.90 to win.
The victory was one of three winning drives on the nine-race card for Clark.
