Aslan, driven by George Brennan, went from first-up to first home Saturday night, winning Yonkers Raceway’s $35,000 Open Handicap Pace.
Leaving from post position No. 2, Aslan was away third as 7-5 choice Lucan Hanover (Brian Sears) found front and seemed comfy through intervals of :27.4, :56.2 and 1:24.2. However, Aslan moved out and did so in a hurry.
Lucan Hanover owned a length lead into the lane, but was unable to stall his rival. Aslan rolled right on by, widening to a length and a quarter in 1:52.3. Lucan Hanover saved second over a closing P H Supercam (Jason Bartlett), with Machs Beach Boy (Pat Lachance) and Stolen Car (Eric Carlson) settling for the remainder.
For second choice Aslan, a five-year-old Mach Three gelding owned by trainer Tony O’Sullivan (as O’Sullivan Racing), it was his sixth win in 22 seasonal starts. The exacta paid $19.60, with the triple returning $43.60.
