The Champion Series continued at Sudbury Downs on Saturday night with Lance Hall winning his series debut and Suzys Solitaire grabbing back-to-back victories. The series is for trotters that are non-winners of $75,000 in 2010.

Lance Hall ($6.40), a seven-year-old gelded son of Angus Hall-Hariclu, went down the road to win the first $15,000 division in 2:00.1 by five and three-quarter lengths for trainer-driver Richard Baker. Apeachtoremember (Mike MacNeill) edged out pocket-sitter Bjs Fancy (Allan Hohner) for second.

The victory was Lance Hall’s ninth of the season in 29 starts and pushed his earnings to $52,822 for 2010 and $292,245 lifetime for owners Peter Dickey of Innisfil and Leo Baker of Keswick, Ont.

Suzys Solitaire ($5.00) and trainer-driver David Dowling sat fourth for most of the mile in the second split before charging to a one-length victory in 2:00.1. The other first leg winner, Charlie O Charlie (Justin Turcotte), came on for second and Sos Breezer (Richard Turcotte) finished third.

The nine-year-old gelded son of Feel Like A Winner-Meadowbranch Evita, a winner of seven races in 27 seasonal starts and $53,234 this year, is owned by David Haney of Waterloo and Lawrence Smith of Elmira, Ont. The lion's share of the purse pushed Suzys Solitaire's lifetime earnings to $359,744.
