Driver Daryl Thiessen added another high point to his best season to date as he piloted five horses to victory at The Raceway at the Western Fair District on Tuesday, Nov. 4.
The reinsman was perfect through the first three races of the 11-race card. He guided Better In Heels ($2.40) to a front-end 1:58.4 victory in the opener for the filly’s third straight tally. Thiessen steered another sophomore filly to a triple in the second race, getting a tough Vivs Freight Train ($3.90) home off a first-over advance in 1:58.2. He then brushed and crushed with Ireland Seelster ($5.20) in 1:57.2 in the third.
Thiessen returned to the winner’s circle in the eighth race as State Of Play ($2.20) gutted out a long uncovered climb to score in 1:55.2, extending his winning streak to three. The driver completed the quintuple by giving Music To My Gears ($3.80) a pocket ride to win the finale in 1:56.3 as the 13-year-old gelding also made it three consecutive scores.
With Tuesday night’s haul, Thiessen crossed the 300-win mark in a season for the first time in his career. The seventh-year driver is clicking at a 17.9 per cent rate this year and is nearing $2 million in earnings on the campaign. He has amassed 732 wins since his debut in 2019.
