Sunshine Boy picked up his third Preferred victory of the Fraser Downs meet with a front-stepping score in Friday's $10,000 feature.
With Dave Hudon catch-driving for trainer Jim Marino, Sunshine Boy stretched out Itll Be Fine, winner of the last two Preferred Handicaps, early on into a :27.4 quarter before looping to the lead and putting up panels of :56.2 and 1:23.4 on his way to a two-length victory in 1:52.1. The late-rallying Mach Steady got up for second, forcing Itll Be Fine to settle for third.
A back-to-back winner of the Preferred class prior to Itll Be Fine's reign, Sunshine Boy was sent postward as odds of 7-2 and paid 9.70 to win.
Owned by Marino, J J J Stables and Paul Sanders, the five-year-old Sunshine Beach gelding has won five of his 20 starts this year and now has 18 career victories with total earnings of $220,828.
