Mach Steady stalked a quick pace catalyzed by parked-out Da Magician and swooped around rivals to pull a 26-1 upset in the $12,000 Open Pace on Sunday, Nov. 4 at Fraser Downs.

Illwinifican pushed for the front from post one with Cool Cowboy, from post two, floating into the pocket and Da Magician failing to get to the pylons wide of Big Time Sunrise. Da Magician then committed first over and advanced into fractions of :27.1, :55.2 and 1:24.2 before folding into the final turn.

Sitting fifth through the mile, driver Scott Knight pulled Mach Steady off the rail heading towards three-quarters and launched by rivals in the stretch to nail Illwinifican by three-quarter lengths in 1:53.1 while favourite Cool Cowboy chased in third.

Returning $54.00 to win, Mach Steady won his sixth race from 17 starts this season and his 11th from 34 overall, earning $99,384. Randy Rutledge conditions the four-year-old Mach Three gelding for owners Randy Rutledge and Jennifer Dodsworth.
