This year’s installment of Legends Day, Clinton Raceway’s biennial community event, helped raise $30,000 for the Clinton Public Hospital Foundation. Organizers recently presented the cheque to members of the hospital.

The $30,000 raised at this year’s Legends Day event – which sees hall of fame harness drivers come to Clinton to race in the Legends Trot and donate their fees – pushed the total year’s fundraising to just over $60,000. For the complete recap from this year’s Legends Day, click here.

Legends Day is one of many events on Clinton Raceway’s live schedule that assists local groups, clubs and organizations in reaching fundraising goals, and provides an opportunity to bring new customers to the track for a fun day out.

“It’s great to be able to give back to the communities that have supported harness racing for many, many years,” stated Jessica Carnochan, who is the marketing manager at Clinton Raceway. “Clinton Raceway draws fans from far and wide, Huron County and beyond, we want to give these fans a chance to utilize our facility and be able to aide in their goals.”

Carnochan went on to say that these events wouldn’t be possible without the loyal fans who attend the races. She also announced that this past season was such a success that Clinton Raceway has now implemented an applications process for groups that are interested.

“We want it to be as fair as possible, giving new groups a chance to join us,” Carnochan explained.

A release from Clinton states that the form isn’t complicated and that the process is easy. Forms can be found on Clinton’s website (clintonraceway.com) and the application deadline is January 31, 2016 for the 2016 live harness meet, which will begin in May. The track is encouraging groups of all kinds (that rely on fundraising to operate) to apply.

The on-track wager for Legends Day this year was $60,000, which was the highest number seen since 1996. Monies raised during the event will be used by the Clinton Public Hospital Foundation for the new nurse call system with wireless phone integration.
