Schooner kept his Ford Summit Series record perfect, notching his third consecutive victory in the event for $6,000 claiming pacers on Sunday evening at Georgian Downs.
With the inside post advantage in one of 11 divisions carrying a purse of $5,200, Schooner ($2.30) quickly made the lead and went wire-to-wire in 1:54.3 with James MacDonald in the sulky for trainer Bruce Goit and owner Amy Katherine Lakie of Waterford, Ont.
The four-year-old son of American Ideal was claimed for $7,500 by Gilles Fleury of Mascouche, Que. and trainer Rene Allard, who won three divisions on the card.
Spacehill ($2.50) romped to a six and three-quarter length victory in 1:56.2 for Allard while Xcell Irish Spirit ($5.60) won the fastest division by eight a quarter lengths in 1:53.4, both driven by Sylvain Filion. You Gotta See This ($3.60), with Tyler Moore in the bike, later prevailed by a quarter length in his division in 1:54.3. Both Spacehill and You Gotta See This were also series winners last week.
Driver Billy Davis Jr. also tripled up in the third round. He drove Ashley Nodstadt trainee St Lads Moxie ($5.60) to a 1:55 victory and then scored again with first leg winner Rashabec ($3.40) in 1:55.2 for trainer Mike Weller. Hidden Hall ($3.80) was also a repeat winner in 1:55.3 for Davis Jr. and conditioner Mike Lamoureux. He was also claimed by former owners Allard and Fleury.
Brittany Robertson trainee Firebrand Hanover ($55) posted the biggest upset of the card in his division, scoring in 1:56 in rein to Jason Ryan.
The other third leg winners were: Bowyer Hanover ($5.90) and Jonathan Drury in 1:55.2 for trainer Des Tackoor; Keep It Covert ($7.30) and Scott Coulter in 1:56.4 for Rheal Bourgeois; and Taylorlane Fancy ($16.40) and Anthony MacDonald in 1:56.1 for Gord McDonnell.
